Sydney Wilson
Sydney Wilson, an extraordinary painter known for her emotive and vividly expressive artworks, has once again captivated the Catalyst community. Following her previous acclaim, Sydney has been honored as the 2024 Catalyst Painter of the Year. Her ability to convey deep emotional landscapes through her art not only enriches viewers but also elevates the dialogue within the art community. Photographer of the year
Bradley Adjei
Bradley Adjei, an exceptional photographer with a keen eye for capturing transformative moments, has been recognized as the 2024 Catalyst Photographer of the Year. His work, known for its depth and ability to tell compelling stories through imagery, resonates deeply within the arts community and beyond. Bradley’s distinctive approach not only showcases his technical prowess but also his profound understanding of visual storytelling. This accolade celebrates his dedication to his craft and his role in elevating the standards of photographic art at Catalyst Studios.
Film Maker of the Year
Arrick Wilson
Arrick Wilson, a junior at Virginia Commonwealth University studying Mass Communications with a focus in Media Production, is the 2024 Catalyst Filmmaker of the Year. Hailing from Virginia Beach, Virginia, Arrick has produced three compelling short films, earning accolades at film festivals and a first-place win in a VCU competition. His passion for amplifying narratives within the Black community inspired him to launch his own production company and found the Black Creative Magazine, platforms dedicated to showcasing the richness of Black creativity. Arrick’s multifaceted roles, including serving as the Photography Editor for The Commonwealth Times, underscore his impact as a versatile and visionary filmmaker.
Digital Artist of the Year
Jaylen Hough
Jaylen Hough, celebrated as the Digital Artist of the Year, dazzles with his multidimensional approach to digital artistry. Known on Instagram as "Turkeydied," Jaylen fuses his passion for fashion with his skills in digital art, creating vivid full-body characters, logos, designs, covers, and fliers. His debut at this year's gallery marked not only his first appearance at our event but also an impressive win, reflecting his exceptional talent and dedication. Jaylen's work, which also includes ventures into acrylic painting and clothing design, has graced other esteemed spaces such as the Art Central Gallery and the Winter Glow Gallery. Recently featured on the "Shut up and listen" series by "Laurentius," Jaylen continues to make his mark, capturing the essence of modern digital expression while enriching the art community.
Spoken Word Artist of the Year
Joel DeVaughn
Joel DeVaughn, our 2024 Catalyst Spoken Word Artist of the Year, brings a profound perspective to art, seeing it as a ubiquitous element woven into the fabric of everyday life. From Virginia Beach, Virginia, Joel's journey in art has been significantly shaped by his belief that every designed object and every act of creation is a form of art. This philosophy was vividly expressed in his spoken word performances that challenge and redefine conventional understandings of art.
